Proserpinaca is a stem plant, 10-40 cm tall and 5-10 cm wide.
Grown in sealed cups and delivered with serrated leaves, which after a transition period in the aquarium develop into long, finely denticulated, needle-shaped leaves.
In good lighting conditions, it acquires a beautiful copper color, and its characteristic appearance is a pleasing contrast to other plants.
Proserpinaca palustris varies in form according to its origin. The Tropica cultivar is found on Isla de la Juventud, in Cuba. In the US, the plant is commonly known as "mermaid herb".
