Hemianthus callitrichoides is one of the smallest aquarium plants in the world, and it creeps along the bottom with round, millimeter-sized leaves. Hemianthus callitrichoides is an attractive and popular foreground plant for small aquariums.
It's not a difficult plant, but it requires good conditions, such as sufficient light, added CO2, water circulation, and fertilizer to thrive. If these conditions are difficult to create, you can use Micranthemum 'Monte-Carlo' as an alternative, as it is less demanding.
Often, small pearls or bubbles of oxygen are produced on top of the plants, giving the carpet a very vibrant appearance.
If planted in small clumps a few centimeters apart, it will spread quickly and cover the ground like a carpet. Trim the carpet regularly, otherwise the lower parts will not receive enough light, causing the roots to die.
Found in Cuba, west of Havana.
