Echinodorus palifolius

Under swampy conditions, Echinodorus palaefolius var. latifolius from Brazil has rounded leaves with a horizontal leaf base. In the submerged state, the leaves are narrower and longer (20 to 40 cm long and 20 to 40 cm wide).

In aquariums, it tends to grow out of the water. This can be avoided by removing the long leaves before they reach the water's surface. The next leaves will be shorter, and the plant will remain underwater. In open aquariums, the plant can grow out of the water, but the edges of the leaves usually dry out if the air humidity is low.
