Ceratophyllum demersum 'Foxtail' was found in a smaller tributary in Bolivia during an expedition to the Guapore River, a border river between Brazil and Bolivia. Ceratophyllum has no roots, but it can be planted at the bottom of an aquarium, and the stems can reach 80 cm in height and 5 cm in width. The 'Foxtail' is distinguished by having leaves closer together and lateral shoots, which gives it an attractive and compact appearance.
The plant is also distinguished by being more resistant, and its stems do not break as easily as those of other Ceratophyllum varieties.
