Blyxa japonica originates in shallow, nutrient-rich pools, swamps, and slow-flowing rivers in East and Southeast Asia.

The plant gained notoriety thanks to the late Takashi Amano and his aquariums from the 90s.

Blyxa has a distinctive grass-like appearance that moves easily in the circulating water of the aquarium, creating a sense of dynamism compared to other more robust plants.
