Aponogeton boivinianus is a large, robust plant that is only suitable for large aquariums.
A bulbous plant from Madagascar, whose bulb can be covered with the undergrowth as long as the tip of the shoot is on the soil surface. Under favorable conditions, it can form very large leaves (up to 80 cm long and 8 cm wide, and 30-50 cm wide). Older leaves are a deep dark green, while newer leaves are light green and sometimes brownish until fully developed. The nutrient capsules considerably enhance growth.
In nature, Aponogeton boivinianus is found in fast-flowing water and prefers some flow in aquarium water. It needs a dormancy period when the bulb loses all its leaves, after which growth resumes.
