Anubias barteri var. barteri

Anubias barteri var. barteri from West Africa is an undemanding plant. It grows slightly larger than Anubias barteri var. nana and is cultivated under the same conditions as other anubias. It tends to grow to 25-45 cm in height, with a rhizome of 10-15 cm. Anubias barteri varies considerably in terms of leaf size and shape.

Like other Anubias species, it is best planted in a shady location to minimize algae growth on the leaves. If planted at the bottom, the rhizome should not be covered as it tends to rot. It is also suitable for terrariums and paludariums. Herbivorous fish cannot eat the leaves as they are too tough and robust.
